Rekey

A technician removes the lock cylinder's internal pins and replaces them with a new set matched to a new key. The lock hardware on your door doesn't change — only which key opens it.

Because the hardware itself isn't being replaced, rekeying is typically faster and less expensive than a full lock change, and multiple doors can be rekeyed to a single shared key.

Moving into a home or rental and not knowing who else might have a key, a roommate or tenant moving out, or losing a key when the lock itself is still in good working condition.

The technician checks the lock's condition first — if it's not a good candidate for rekeying (badly worn, damaged), they'll say so and recommend a lock change instead rather than rekeying something that won't hold up.
